February 20, 2023: Pride of Beverley

posted in: Bulls | 0

So… the Bulls finally did something. Once Russell Westbrook decided he was going to keep his talents in LA, this time with the lesser known basketball franchise AKA the Clippers, the next man up was Patrick Beverley. He will be joining the Bulls for the rest of the season. How you doing?

Well, this move will be coupled with another announcement: the end of the season for Lonzo Ball. Unfortunately, it turns out, the season was over before it started for Lonzo. Any pipe dreams we had of him coming back, and helping lead this team down the stretch and into the playoffs, is over. And now, we turn our attention to the new addition; don’t think we have quite the same expectations from Patrick that we had for Lonzo, but hey… at least he’ll actually be on the court. Where things go with Lonzo from here will be told another day. Where the Bulls go from here with Beverley is where we’re living now.

Patrick has Chicago roots; he was born in Chicago. He’s not exactly the “Pride of Beverley and/or Beverly”, a Chicago neighborhood on the South Side, but he is from here. He went to High School here, actually about 12 blocks from the UC. Being a Chicago guy, I’ve always rooted for him. I love his defensive intensity. Sure, has his “act” gone a little too far, with one of the latest things being Tech’d up giving the refs a camera? Yeah, but when in Hollywood… Now, he’s back home. We’re not going to get a guy that puts up a lot of points; his career high was in 2017-2018 at 12.2 with the Clips. He is a 37.6% three point shooter, which is actually better than Zach Lavine… He will bring some defense to this team; maybe he’ll actually inspire the “big 3” to play some. Having him and Caruso out there at the same time, maybe even with Ayo, and Patrick Williams… those are some good defenders. If only we could transfer their defensive skills into the bodies of our big 3… But alas, this is the Bulls team that we have. And based on how the season has gone thus far, I was up to add anybody to this team. I am happy with the addition of Patrick Beverley.

Just because I’m happy with this addition, doesn’t mean I think this changes our outlook a whole heck of a lot. Sure, this could be a spark; this could be something that pushes a few more of those close games our way. Maybe his presence will help us NOT blow big leads. Maybe he’ll even help us get into the playoffs via one of the play in games. Not sure I can expect that much more than that. I’m just happy we did SOMETHING; it didn’t cost us any players or picks either. How will it all work out? Well, it can’t be much worse than it already is, and THAT’S the reason why I’m totally up for this addition. Interested to see how it plays out; you know I’ll be watching. Welcome home Patrick. Go Bulls!!!
