So yeah, it happened. LeBron James broke the NBA all-time scoring record. Now normally when I mention that name, there ain’t nothing but hate following it. For today, we’ll put that on the back burner. Scoring the most points in NBA history is an impressive accomplishment. Let’s give LBJ his props.
I was texting with one of my buddies last night. He loves to send me stuff about LeBron, knowing that I hate him, just to rile me up, so of course he sent me a bunch last night. One of his texts actually read: “Useless accomplishment if he doesn’t get into the playoffs”. Maybe he was anticipating one of my responses??? But when I finally responded, I said: “Definitely not a useless accomplishment. Respect due for sure.” He was probably floored and responded: “What is this the Twilight Zone with us?” Haha.. I think I even surprised my son talking to him about this. He started to quote MJ #s and give me the reasons he’s better than LBJ; I’ve taught him well. But for today, for someone like myself and my son, who are very confident in our GOAT selection, let’s give LeBron his flowers… kind of crazy that some of his teammates don’t seem to agree.
There was the whole Russell Westbrook thing earlier in the game, when LeBron was subbing in for him, and he took forever to get off the court; I guess he got into it with the coach. Then there was that video shot of LBJ breaking the record that showed Anthony Davis sit down during it… and take HIS sweet time to get onto the court to congratulate him. Things that make you go hmmm… It’s pretty easy for me to see why these guys may be acting like that. LeBron has never been a team first guy; he’s always been a ME first guy. This night was the ultimate ME moment. I mean, just the other day, he was crying about not getting Kyrie, while AD and Russ are still on the roster… definitely think there will be moves made before the trade deadline for the Lake Show.
But back to the record… one thing I WILL say about Mr. James, is that his longevity is impressive. The fact that he continues to play, and at a relatively high level, depending on how you feel about the defense in today’s NBA both from his opposition and himself, is quite an accomplishment. Sure, skipping college has helped that, but assuming he plays at least one more year, he’ll be top 5 all time in THAT category too. If he plays longer, like he says he will, you know, waiting to play on the same team as his son, then he could catch Robert Parish who played a total of 1,611 games in the NBA; he could catch Vince Carter at 22 seasons played in the league as well. The dude hasn’t been injured much, and although he takes his days off here and there, he doesn’t have to take as many games off any more, considering the number of plays he takes off on the defensive end… haha. I just can’t resist.
But yes, for today, I will say: Congratulations Lebron. No matter how you slice it, no matter what stupid words come out of your mouth, or stupid thoughts that people have putting you at the top of a GOAT list, it is quite the accomplishment. The longer you keep playing, the more accomplishments you will have, and that’s pretty cool. Just remember one thing you can never accomplish: the Greatest NBA Player of All Time. That title is currently taken, and unless my son goes on to play in the NBA, will never be available for debate. Thank you.
