Anybody been watching the Blackhawks? I know for me, it’s been few and far between. It feels like the couple times I was going to tune in, I didn’t have the channel; I thought the same on Tuesday night vs Buffalo. However, the game WAS on a channel that I had; so I tuned in for a bit. My God were those Sabre uniforms ugly… I was flipping around, and ended up back on the Hawks in OT. It feels like whenever I pick up a Hawks game late, one that goes to OT, they end up losing… like as soon as I put it back on; I thought I was going to jinx them again. But… this time, the opposite was true. Seth Jones scored the game winner; I actually saw the Hawks win one of these! The Hawks have been doing that a lot more lately.
Yeah, don’t look now, but the Hawks have been going off course; they’re trying to screw up the overall #1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. They have won 4 of the last 5 games! Wow! Overall, they were 4-3 on their 7 game home stand that ended against the Sabres on Tuesday night; not too shabby. But have no fear… even with this recent hot streak, the Blackhawks are still only 12-26-4. They are tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets at 28 points, good for worst in the NHL, 1 point “ahead of” the Anaheim Ducks who have 29. It’s the Connor Bedard sweepstakes, right? I think I’ll have to start reading up on him a bit more; is he really the can’t miss, next future HOFer? If so, then I guess I’m all for the Hawks bottoming out this year; what the hell is wrong with me?
Well, this Bears season has provided new perspective. Losing sucks; let’s just start there. The Bears season, and now, the Blackhawks season was and has been brutal. For the Bears, it’s been a while, but for the Hawks… it seems like only yesterday we were on top of the NHL; we still have 19 & 88 on the ice for God’s sake! Didn’t we just win 3 Cups in 6 years??? Well, that last Cup was 8 years ago now; time flies when you’re having fun eh? It hasn’t been a fun 8 years for the Blackhawks since that last championship; this year is more of the same, only worse. Yet, like the Bears, they have a new regime in place, trying to setup things THEIR way. For the Bears, it worked… meaning, all this losing, all these weekly kicks in the balls, was all worth it, because we have the #1 overall pick; I don’t see any reason why the same wouldn’t apply to the Chicago Blackhawks. Although every win is cherished, maybe more so in the NFL just because there are fewer games… every win provides good feelings/emotions… every loss the opposite… when all the dust settles, there is only 1 ultimate winner every season. An argument can be made, that if you’re not THAT team, if you’re not first, then it’d be best to be last. Agree?
It’s opposite of every fabric in my die hard being to say this, but I think after going through this with the Bears, I may believe it. I’ll tell you what: as a Bears fan, I feel pretty F-ing good right now; the future is bright from what I can tell. As a Blackhawks fan, I’m ready to feel that same way. Sure, we have to endure another few months of losing, but… if that means we get the next NHL Hall of Fame player… that will springboard this franchise over the next decade or so… I’m kind of feeling like it would be worth it. So, Go Hawks!!!! but don’t F it up… haha.
