The 2022 Bears season ended on Sunday with another loss to the Vikings; that’s 10 in a row for those counting. The Bears record: 3-14; to say it was a tough season, would be an understatement. Yet, on this final Sunday of the NFL season, events transpired that made it all worth it.
If you realized the Bears plan before the season, bravo; I didn’t. It did become clear when they traded Roquan; that will be a questionable decision in my head for a long time, I think. Yet, at that point, the goal for the season was clear; lose as much as you can. That goal made it tough to watch (although Fields helped)… how do I root my ass off for the Bears to win the game, and get pissed when they lose, if that is what they wanted; think about it. Yet, if that was the goal, which nobody will come out and admit, but we all know it to be true, the Bears did their job as good as anybody could. They lost out, but even THAT, wouldn’t be enough; they would need some help to get the ultimate prize for their season of shit. And… that help came on Sunday afternoon, in the form of a Houston Texans victory. That win propelled the Texans ahead of the Bears in the standings, which meant there was nobody else to “beat”… The Bears clinched the overall #1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Wowza!!!
First off, shout out to Lovie Smith. We had our ups and downs when he was coach, but man did he come through in this one. I imagine the conversation between Lovie and the front office was pretty clear before the game; Lovie would NOT return as head coach. So, guess what Lovie did? Won that damn game and cost the Texans the #1 pick; bravo Lovie! Way to stick it to them, and oh yeah, thanks for helping us out. I will always remember this day; I’m adding you to the Christmas card list! You were already a part of Bears history, and now, could have played a critical role in the turning around of this franchise. Much love Lovie.
The Bears did it; they tanked all the way, and received the ultimate prize. Now, the options are endless. Now, we only need to rely on Poles to make the right decisions. He is holding all the cards; he’s sitting on 4 of a kind. Don’t F it up Ryan. Not only did Sunday mean the end of the pain that was the 2022 season, it opened up the floodgates of limitless joy heading into the offseason. There was only one more thing left to see this season… we didn’t have to wait long. Yes, the annual tradition of celebrating the end of the Packers season came early this year! I would never have thought I’d become a Texans AND Lions fan in one day! Simply amazing!!! The Lions earned my respect in Sunday night’s win over the Packers (and the refs) in Green Bay on Sunday night. They played their asses off even though they had been eliminated; much respect Lions. Even after the NFL helped the Pack out scheduling them the last game of the day, even after the refs did everything they could, there must have been too much money on the Packers for Papa Vegas to let that happen. Love it!
Yeah, not sure how the end of this crappy ass season could have went any better. After one of the worst regular seasons in Bears history, in one day, it was all washed away; no more enduring the pain of a tank fest. Still so much more to go, to get back to our ultimate goal, but Sunday felt like something. It felt like the end of being a shitty team; it feels like the start of OUR time. Time will tell, but I won’t forget this day any time soon, and although I will never wear a jersey of another team, the Texans and the Lions have gained a special place in my heart for their actions on this day. Can’t wait to see what happens this offseason. Bear Down!!!
