January 5, 2023: Week 18 vs Vikings

posted in: Bears | 0

It will look like another preseason game. With the Vikings set for the playoffs, and the Bears focused on the #1 pick in the NFL draft, who will “want it more”???

Everybody kind of talks crap about the Vikings, and their QB Kirk Cousins. Nobody really believes in them. They got their ass kicked in the first half against the Colts before their record breaking comeback. The sorry ass Packers kicked them around last week. They’ve been winning nail biters all year; I think this counts for something BTW. It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the playoffs, but… if I was a betting man, I’d be looking to get behind the Vikes, at least in the first round.

Talking about betting… good luck with this game. If I had one suggestion in this game, with the Vikings favored by 6 points, it would be to take them on the money line. I could see it being another close game. Speaking of close games, the Bears have been playing those most of the season…. losing them, but they’ve been in it. I could beat the dead horse and say a play here and a play there, which would be true, but who cares at this point. It is because of this that I think the Bears are closer to a 500 team than the record suggests, but that’s just me with my rose-colored glasses reading between the lines. Next year will be the show and prove year for our boys.

So yeah, the best thing about this game is that Fields will not get hurt. Of course, it’s because he will not be playing. Supposedly Fields is pissed about it. But the powers that be know how important a loss here is; they also know how important it is that Fields gets through this meaningless year. Keeping him out is smart; I’m actually shocked he played as much as he did down the stretch.

Final Score Prediction: Vikings 31 Bears 28

Ace in the Hole: David Montgomery 2 TDs

This could also be David Montgomery’s last game as a Bear. I like him. He runs hard. For the better part of his time here with the Bears, he’s been asked to get yardage with a shoddy offensive line; he’s been asked to get yards surrounded by defenders. I think it’s because of this predicament that he has been more susceptible to injuries; just my quick thought on that. If no Monty, then Khalil Herbert next year? Or we drafting someone? Or maybe we can sign the Vikings backup RB, who has done well in the past when Cook has been hurt. He hasn’t seen much of the field this year, but maybe Alexander Mattison in a Bears uni next year? You heard it here first. He will be somewhere else. That’s why I spent my entire free agent budget on him in my keeper league. I’m expecting him to start somewhere.

But yeah, the Bears did sign WR Brown to a 1 year extension. He’s not that good, but one year is no biggie. It’d be nice if he was a #4-5 WR vs a #2-3 WR. I think he could do OK in that role. Anyways, good riddance to this season. It will officially be over, although it was unofficially over months ago. Until next year boys… Bear Down!!!
