December 27, 2022: Nightmare Football

What is the opposite of fantasy? Is it nightmare? Well, let’s just say it is. Let me tell you how my Nightmare Football season went up in flames this year.

Let’s start with my keeper league, where I was right on the fringe of making the playoffs heading into the final week of the regular season. I was sitting in the 7 spot; I needed either the 5 or 6 team to lose for me to have a chance. Well, both the 5 AND 6 team lost. The only problem was I didn’t live up to my end of the bargain. I needed to win and I didn’t. I ended up in the worst position possible in a keeper league: just missing the playoffs. Thankfully, the 8 seed leap frogged me, so I did bump up a spot in next year’s draft. Still, pretty much the worst ending of the season there could be, but wait, there’s more…

In my auction league, things were looking great. Heading into the final week of the regular season, I was sitting in 1st place; I was also on the fringe of most points in the league. Both of these things would have paid me some dough. All I needed to do was win the last week and I would finish in 1st overall; if I had a really big week, I could get the most points too. Well, it wouldn’t fit into the title of this blog if I accomplished either of those things. Not only did I not score enough points to get the most points overall, I lost, which took my out of the #1 seed; no money would be coming my way from the regular season results. Still, I DID finish #2, which got me a first week bye; this was much needed, since I pretty much shit the bed during my bye week; whew! No worries, I would do the same the following week, where one win would have got me to the finals, which would have meant money either way. It wasn’t meant to be…

Finally, in the family league… I just hate when this happens. I turned in my worst week of the season in my first round playoff matchup. Yes, I scored less points that week than in any week the whole season! Just a bunch of crap. Sad thing is, even with all my nightmare stories of the end of my fantasy football seasons, my son’s ending topped it. He was the best team in our family league all year long. He ended the season on an 8 game winning streak, obviously in the #1 slot. He got the bye week, and would have won his playoff matchup, even though DeAndre Hopkins didn’t do shit, even though his TE Everett got a goose egg, if it weren’t for the tight end he was facing. Tyler Higbee… I don’t think my son will ever forget his name. 30 something points? That’s the breaks…

So yeah, not so great… Now, the football season is officially over. My fantasy football season had been carrying me this year, with the Bears season over for all intensive purposes after the Roquan trade; we haven’t won a game since then FYI. And now, I come up empty handed in a year where all 3 of my teams did pretty well. Boo Hoo for me… haha. Just like all my Chicago teams… there’s always next year.
