I’m so excited about the Bears game this Sunday that I’m going to do the game preview a day early… NOT! Although it will feature 2 of the most dynamic QBs in the NFL today (no?), the mismatch between the rest of the talent on the field will ultimately be the deciding factor here. I don’t think we’ll get embarrassed, but it will most certainly be a loss.
It’s been about 6 weeks now, that I’ve accepted the Bears fate this season; I had been pretty hopeful this year, and not just because I bet $50 on the Bears over win total in the summer. Looking at their schedule, hoping that Fields would take the next step, knowing our defense would be above average, I felt like there was no way all of the horrible pre-season predictions about the Bears would be true. As the season began, I still felt OK. I couldn’t believe that a play or two in every game had decided our fate; I felt we were THAT close to being a good team. Yeah, well, good teams WIN those games; good teams don’t make THOSE mistakes. It was evident that the Bears needed to figure out how to win these close games; they still haven’t figured it out. Of course, Poles made sure the fate of the Bears this year was decided when he moved Quinn, not too upset about that one, and Roquan, still think it was a bad move. He ensured the defense would be bad; they haven’t allowed less than 27 points in the 6 games since then. They had only allowed 27 or more points twice in the first 7 games. With a shitty defense in place, it was up to the offense to do it all, and although Fields has definitely taken the next step in his development, and although he HAS tried to do it all, it hasn’t been enough. The Bears haven’t won 1 game since they traded Roquan. Even with the addition of Chase Claypool, who, based on his production since then, makes me want to say “WHO”???? Even with a few nice games from Kmet. Even with Monty continuing to run hard, and the offensive line improving, it hasn’t been enough. Next year they say, next year…
Well, the Eagles “next year” is here. At 12-1 (12-1???), they are the best team in the NFL, at least record-wise. I like Jalen Hurts; I think he’s a really nice QB. He has some weapons to throw to, including freshly acquired AJ Brown in the offseason. Their defense is no slouch either. Plus, they are doing this in a division where, as of today, EVERY team will make the playoffs; holy shit! That’s crazy. The NFC East has certainly been a beast this year. I still wouldn’t take the Eagles over the Niners in the NFC, but that’s about it. Yet against our Bears… Papa Vegas has them as 9 point favorites on the road at Soldier Field. Why for some reason do I think this game will be close?
Final Score Prediction: Eagles 31 Bears 24
Ace in the Hole: Justin Fields, because who else???
I’d like to think Justin Fields will come out in this one and go crazy, taking this matchup between Hurts, one of the best QBs in the NFL, personally. “I’m pretty good too”!!! Yet, this isn’t what the Bears want. They want him to play good, and he will. Yet, I’m sure they’ll reign him in, just like our last loss vs the Packers. I’m sure we will not call run plays for Fields; I’m sure he’s been instructed to slide if he does scramble. I’m sure that the Bears will want to keep Fields in the pocket to pass the ball. Although I DO feel like Fields can do that very well, with St. Brown as our #1 WR in this one, well, not sure who could get THAT done. Just don’t get hurt Justin… Bear Down!!!
