Some days, as a Chicago sports fan, it’s like, playing at the park in the summer, and the water fountains aren’t working, and we’re just waiting for that drop of water. Some days, as a Chicago sports fan, it’s like, taking the hose out in the backyard, and drinking, and drinking, and drinking from it on a hot summer day. Monday was the 2nd type of day. How much goodness can we have in one day?
It all started on a personal level for me. As one sports season ends for my son, another begins. Saturday began his basketball season at school. This year has already started off much better than last. The biggest thing is that they split the teams up. With like 18 kids on the JV team last year, it was near impossible to get all the kids playing time, especially my son in 4th grade playing with 5th and 6th graders. This year… the 5th grade boys have their own team; this is awesome. He is starting at guard. Another great thing is that we will actually have home games this year, vs playing all our games at some gym not close to home due to COVID restrictions; Saturday was the first home game. The result was a 19-11 win; my son had 4 points, 6 steals, and 2 rebounds. That brought us to the first road game, which started at the same time as the Bulls, just before the Bears on Monday night. The result was a 33-6 thrashing; my son had 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. It kicked off an evening of glory for this here guy…
Jumping in the car on the way home, I flipped over to the Bears game, but we’ll get to that later. Let’s talk Bulls for a second. What do we make of our boys so far? Wasn’t confident heading into Miami; Bulls won. Playing the Wizards, a winnable game IMO; Bulls lose. Excited for the home opener; Bulls get crushed. Expecting the Celts to hand it to us; Bulls win. WTF?!?! The Bulls, who couldn’t beat a good team, have now registered their first 2 wins against the Heat and Celtics; that’s the good news. I wouldn’t go as far to say losing to the Wizards was embarrassing, but… DD did have a shot to win it at the buzzer, just like last year, but rimmed out. I guess the worst one was the loss to the revamped Cavs at the UC; it was an ass kicking… we’ll see the Cavs a bunch too. Much more to come on the Bulls as the season develops, but for this Monday night, they did their part, bouncing back from an early deficit to hand it to the Celtics; guess that Chicago ass kicking of Boston was a thing on this evening… With two wins on the hardcourt in the bank, it was up to the Bears to finish the job… and finish the job they did. We’ll talk about that next.
Yeah, Monday night was one of those nights; my passion bucket was overflowing. It was a bucketful plus some; where do we go from here? Back to the grind man, back to the grind. Before that though, let’s get back to that beautiful Bears game…
