Hey, the Blackhawks played this week… yeah, and I’m sure some leaves fell in your neighborhood too. Sorry, but it’s tough to get excited about the Hawks right now.
Trading away a bunch of your best young players from a team that was already not that great will do that. Sure, 19 & 88 are still around; I will always love to watch them play. The rest of these guys? I need a fricking printed out roster with guys names and numbers. It’s going to be a long year on the ice.
Another rebuild going on; we have enough of those in Chicago don’t we? The Blackhawks have the new leadership; they want to do things their way. We won’t know if that’s going to work for a couple years. I guess we have to give them a chance; what other choice do we have? I’m still going to try to watch them. I didn’t tune into any of it in Colorado for the opener. Thanks BTW for that schedule makers. In the house to face the defending champs on their banner raising night… memories… Hawks lost 5-2; I imagine it wasn’t that close?
On Thursday night, the Hawks were in Vegas. Once the Bears came up short, I did actually flip over to watch a bit; they were just starting the 2nd period. I’m not sure who the play by play guy is, and I’m too lazy to check that, but I certainly recognize who the color guy was. Patrick Sharp behind the mic for Hawks games? I can get used to that. There was certainly a bit of reminiscing along the way; this year will be the 10 year anniversary of that 2013 Cup team. That’s a good idea for a feature right here… considering there probably won’t be much to talk about with the current Hawks. I made it through the whole period, staying up that is. As the in between period folks came on, I was done. I must have fell asleep before the 3rd began. I saw the Hawks lost 1-0.
An 0-2 start for the boys is not surprising; the only thing that will be surprising this year for the Hawks is if they go on a long winning streak or something. All that magic that was sparking up after Kane and Toews were drafted is gone. They’re still around though; that should mean something, right? Yes, the Hawks who captured the city’s hearts back then, rewarding us with not 1, not 2, but 3 Stanley Cups, are kind of back to where they were, at the bottom of the pecking order in Chicago sports. I know that’s not true for everyone; I know I will continue to try to watch them throughout the season. I certainly believe I should be able to get cheap tix to go see them play. But, with the Bears in season, and the Bulls with a lot more promise, the Hawks will be option 3 for a while for me, and that’s not even counting my son’s sports, which is #1 btw… haha.
Here’s hoping for some wins for the Blackhawks; here’s hoping I’m actually awake to see us grab those 2 points on those very, few evenings in the upcoming months. Here’s hoping I’m totally wrong about this, and the Hawks are a lot better than expected. Here’s hoping… Go Hawks!
