September 28, 2022: KC and His Sunshine

If you’re not following KC Johnson, the guy who covers the Bulls, you’re missing out. I love that guy; he’s probably my favorite guy to read and listen to when it comes to Chicago sports. He’s definitely the guy I want to listen to when it comes to the Bulls. I was lucky enough to hear him on the radio the other day when I was driving my wife to work, talking about the upcoming Bulls season. I had just wrote about the Bulls the day before, and now, after listening to him, I have some more thoughts…

KC keeps it real, positive, but realistic… my kind of guy. Although I am probably more positive than realistic, I can definitely appreciate what he brings to the table. Talked about Lonzo… not good. If you’re expecting Lonzo to play for the Bulls any time before the All Star break, you’re probably wrong; we’d be lucky if he comes back at all, to be honest. But… there is that possibility that THIS procedure will show something; we’re all hoping it’s positive, with a prognosis at the end of the day, of Lonzo returning to the court sometime during this upcoming season. Lonzo being done for the foreseeable future is the main driver of the Vegas over under win total that has been assigned; 42.5 wins… wow. That’s depressing. You’re telling me the Bulls are a 500 team this year? Well, they don’t have to be…

I talked about all the “ifs” that need to happen for the Bulls to have a successful season. The development of Ayo and Patrick Williams is critical; KC talked about that. He also brought up some other good points. We’re all worried about DD duplicating his performance last season; per KC, he doesn’t have to. In fact, IF he does, it’s probably a bad thing for the Bulls. DD carried us for good amounts of time last year. In the playoffs, this killed us, because it was DD or bust. If the other team is smart, you shut him down, you shut us down. We need our other options to step up. Zach Lavine is the first guy that comes to mind. When healthy, him and DD were that 1-2 punch; this year, as long as he stays healthy, Zach could flip it, and be the 1 in that combo. This would be one development that has the Bulls exceeding that Vegas win total.

Another development would be if Vooch got back to his roots, as he mentioned on media day. This means, he would live more on the blocks, in the paint, where he belongs. When KC mentioned that point, it brought a smile to my face. There was nothing that pissed me off more last year than Vooch living at the three point line. IF he can get back to the low post, shit, even mid game, I think that’s positive for us. A trey every once in a while is palatable, but nowhere near the amount of treys he shot last year. KC also talked about Drummond and his role. Definite upgrade over Tristan, we’ll see what Andre could bring, but we do know that he’s more than just a bad free throw shooter. He’s a high level rebounder and defender, which will be needed. If HE plays well, there’s something else helping point that arrow UP on the win total.

So yeah, I was feeling a bit down about the Bulls season; I was trying to keep it positive… hearing KC and his sunshine made me feel better. What will it all add up to at the end of the day? Well, that’s why they play the games they say. Thanks KC… glad my KC got to listen too… always room for more sunshine… Go Bulls!!!
