I have a lot of random thoughts… so much so, that I’m thinking about making this a regular weekly feature. Many times, these thoughts trigger while I’m sitting on the couch watching sports; sometimes they may happen in the shower. They used to happen when I walked my dog; RIP Maxie! I think I will fire them up; maybe have a separate category/link on my website to house them. OK, we’ll come back to that… for now, just a normal evening review.
The Cubs were getting their asses kicked on Wednesday night; what else is new. The game was actually close when I tuned in, but then the Reds blew it open… helped by a dribbler past the mound with the bases loaded that Morel threw into the dugout; actually like that kid though. OK, no need to sit on this game… I normally would. What has changed though, besides the massive frustration the Cubs have caused in the past year or so, is the announcer; still can’t get with Boog. If he recites one more exit velocity, I’m going to throw my remote at the TV. Who gives a rat’s ass if it was hit 100MPH, but it was an out??? “Oh, wow, this guy really hits the ball hard”… doesn’t everybody in the majors do that? Sure, there are variances, but… let me ask you… would you rather hit the ball hard and make an out, or would you rather hit it 10mph less and get a hit? Stupid ass exit velo… Boog’s go-to line…
You know the other thing that has kind of soured me on the broadcast, which is really strange since I’m a degenerate gambler; it’s the bets that get reviewed throughout the game! I love gambling; I love the Cubs. Mixing the two together… not so much. I want the Cubs to win every game; I know they can’t. Yet, I can’t see betting against them; now I have to choose between the team I love and money? Some may say that’s a no brainer; not me though. I remember back in the day betting against the Bears… it was brutal. It made the game watching experience more stressful than it already is. So… either I’m betting on them, or nothing at all. Then there’s the whole props thing; I don’t want to start hating one of my Cubs because he came up short on a prop bet… really… because I would. You good for nothing bastard… you couldn’t get 2 fricking total bases you jagofff!!! Haha… Yeah, mixing the two, although you’d think it would be awesome, just like the Marquee network, not so much. And the Cubs are building a house of gambling outside Wrigley… good times man.
So I turned on MLB network, and got to watch an unbelievable comeback… by the team I hate the most. Yeah, the Cardinals scored 5 in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Nationals. Best thing about that comeback: the stadium was practically empty. “Best fans in baseball” sure made their way to the exits quick after the Cards fell behind; what a joke they are. Bravo to the fans who stuck around to see an impressive comeback. Reminds me of something someone once told me. If you’re going to leave early, do it when YOUR team is up big. Worst case, you miss an epic failure by your team. But… if you leave and your team is down big… and they comeback… dude, you just missed an all-time comeback… sucker! FYI– I don’t recommend leaving early in any situation.
OK, so these were more focused thoughts, but still a ton of random shit floating around up in my skull. Is it time to drop the first Random Thoughts post? Soon… very soon…
