I haven’t been as zoned in on the Cubs as I usually am. I’ll repeat myself for the 100th time… just a really frustrating season; White Sox fans may tell me “hold my beer”. We’ll get to them in a minute. But yeah, the Cubs… there have been some bright spots. Beating the Brewers this past weekend was nice; beating the Cardinals any time is nice. The Cubs had a chance to win that series too on Thursday afternoon, but came up short. Not only that, they did some stupid shit before the game. They honored Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina… why though?
Beating your rivals is the best. Knocking them down a notch, helping to spoil a part of their season, is really all we got this year. I guess the Brewers are one of our rivals. The geographical closeness certainly helps; I’ve built up some hate for them over the years. Still, kind of hard to really hate any team that has NEVER WON ANYTHING. Yeah, I’ll remind everyone again, that the Brewers have won exactly ZERO World Series titles; that’s the type of team I typically root for. Although deep down, I really wouldn’t mind if they win one one day, I’m certainly not rooting for that to happen. I would root for them against our other rival though…
I hate the Cardinals. Only the Packers can generate more hate in my heart than the Cardinals. They HAVE won a whole heck of a lot of titles, second only to the Yankees. They have turned our “rivalry” one sided, which really sucks. We do have the 2015 playoff series victory over them; how fricking sweet was that? Winning the World Series in 2016 has certainly helped; yeah, who won the last World Series between us two? Huh, huh? The “Cardinal way”… blah blah blah. OK, enough… you can read all about them in their very own Hate File. They’re always in the mix, which makes me sick. Getting Arenado and Goldschmidt… when they were in the running for Soto, I just about barfed. I can’t stand this team. Then you got a guy like Dickerson, getting a hit for his 10th straight AB. I’m sorry… if this is your “rival”, guy gets up there after 9 straight, how about a little chin music? Don’t hurt the guy, just break up his concentration. If this is your “rival”, then plunk Goldschmidt in the ass BEFORE he hits his 2nd HR of the day. He’s a big boy; it won’t hurt… he can take it. Nah, how about we just honor two of the guys we’ve hated the most over the past 2 decades, and lay down passively the rest of the day as the Cardinals kick our ass?
Albert Pujols… who I’d like to refer to as “Poo-holes”. One of the biggest Cubs killers over the years; dude I absolutely despise. Sure, is he a Hall of Famer, yeah; great player no doubt. But did we really have to honor him with a pre-game ceremony? I wouldn’t have been cheering; I would have been booing. If we were going to do anything pregame, how about a piss test, considering how well his old, washed up ass has been doing lately. And then Yadier Molina? The “non” Hall of Fame catcher, who has been a thorn in our side, and was essentially busted cheating with the ball getting stuck to his chest protector. I was reading a bit about his Cooperstown case, already having my firm opinion. Sure, he has great defense, and has been a part of title winning teams, but his offense is downright offensive. He’s about as good as Jason Kendall, as the writer puts it. Yeah, remember him? I don’t know… doesn’t sound like a Hall of Famer to me, but… the Cardinal fans love him; I wonder how they liked when he left his team for a while to support the team he owns in Puerto Rico. Just because their fans like these guys, and the rest of the MLB wants to remember their careers, doesn’t mean we have to. How about just a tweet or something? We look like fricking idiots honoring these guys before the game, straight up.
I guess the days of “rivals” are long gone. You got the biggest bandwagon jumper in the NBA who everybody wants to compare to Jordan. You got guys laughing during the game with the other team. Hey, I’m all for fun; I think you should get along with everybody, but NOT during the game. When the game is on, that other team is trying to do the same thing you are; when that other team is a team that is supposed to be your “rival”, laser focus, do anything possible to beat that hated bunch. Yeah, but let’s honor them… weak. There had to be a better way if the Cubs felt they MUST do something.
