August 24, 2022: Fantasy Season Ahead

I’m always shocked when I find someone who DOESN’T play Fantasy Football. What was that world like? Shit, we’d have to go back about 30 years before I discovered the beautiful world of Fantasy Football. Let’s be honest; it’s a blast. It’s not THAT involved if you don’t want it to be, only setting your lineup once per week, but it can be. This week, I’ve flipped on the research mode, prepping for 3 drafts in the next week. Fantasy season ahead!!!

I never thought I’d be in multiple leagues; one was always enough for me. I just didn’t like the fact that I could have a guy on my team that I’m playing against in another league. If I could pick one team to roll with in multiple leagues, it would be better; I guess you can do that type of stuff with the different options that are out there today… picking a different lineup weekly. Haven’t got into that, although sounds cool. First up is my keeper league. This is the first year, year 3 of this league, where we will have our full allotment of keepers, six per team. 72 players will already have been accounted for heading into the draft. My second league, the oldest that I’ve been in, is an auction league; absolutely LOVE auction leagues. I think it requires the most skill out of them all. Being able to get any player you want for the right price, having to balance those bucks across your whole roster… really enjoy it. You have so much more control than just a regular snake draft. My 3rd league is the family league, which will be the most laid back, with the young cousins getting in on the action. A normal snake draft with 8 teams will provide many able players to fill your roster. Love how my son is hooked on it already; 6 mock drafts thus far?

Still remember that first league way back when. I was in high school, and we gathered with our notebooks to do our draft. We would scour the Sun Times every Monday morning, reviewing the stats of each game, tallying up the points… checking and double checking. Yeah, it’s come a long way since then… keepers, auctions, everything automated in an app that you can view in the palm of your hand, allowing me to manage my teams from the third stall at work. Good stuff.

Time to manage our fake teams again. I’ve won titles in each of the past 2 years, which makes me pretty happy. In each case, I had huge games from individual guys… Kamara the first year, Chase the second year, and STILL had to sweat it out, needing a late fumble/INT from Jalen Hurts the first year, and needing the Steelers to not throw Diontae Johnson’s direction the second half last year. Classic. I’ve taken a lot of tough losses over the years; it’s great to be on the other side of it. OK let’s get on with it.
