August 13, 2022: Meaningless Season

posted in: Bears | 0

If you’ve read anything I’ve written about the NFL preseason over the years, you know my thoughts on it; it should be called the meaningless season. Yeah, I was a bit more interested last year, due to Fields’ rookie season, but that’s about it. With Justin not getting the starter’s reps last year in the preseason, that pretty much put a damper on that one… But the Bears played a preseason game on Saturday. The Bears played a preseason game on Saturday? Yeah, I guess they did; I didn’t even realize it…

I could blame on just getting back from vacation, but honestly, I don’t mark my calendar for the preseason games anyways. Bears won though; yippee! Maybe this one had a little extra juice, since that guy that didn’t give Fields the starter reps last year was back in the house. Still can’t win at Soldier Field is one of the things I saw under a picture of Matt Nagy. Guess him and Fields had an exchange, just as he and Roquan did. I’m sure Nagy spoke with a lot of his ex-guys. I don’t hate him; he wasn’t the worst coach ever…

I saw a highlight or two; honestly not even that interested in those. It doesn’t make me any less of a Bears fan if I’m not interested in the preseason right? Right. Wake me when the regular season starts. In the meantime, nobody important get hurt; hopefully we’ll have a couple surprises too. Guess that safety we drafted had a nice game; a local LB played well. Fields showed signs too sounds like. Chiefs jumped out early, and the Bears fought back and won with their subs; what does it all mean? Nothing.

Unless you were betting on the game, which, as a former gambler, I do advocate for. Betting preseason football was always a money maker for me; unfortunately that didn’t extend into the regular season. But I usually built a little buffer heading into Week 1. The key is looking at the QB situation, as well as, any other motivational factors, position battles, etc. Who has the best backup QB? Which team has a decent 3rd string QB? Are there a lot of position battles on defense? Maybe the D will be better throughout. Anyways, other than that, I guess just to get a taste of football? I’m good; I can wait.

Hey, if you like it, you like it; good for you. Definitely not knocking it, it just ain’t for me. When the games start meaning something, then I will zone in; until then, I’ll keep an eye on it. How many times has the preseason mislead us? Didn’t the 85 Bears go 1-3 in the preseason? There’s something for you if you’re bored. What have the preseason records of all the Super Bowl champs been? Get to it, and let me know. My guess is there ain’t a whole lot of correlation, but I’ve been wrong before. Fields got out of the game healthy, I’m good. Bear Down!
