August 8, 2022: Welcome to Last Place

posted in: Cubs | 0

OK, let’s get back to current day baseball. Surely, there are no “all-timers” on the current Cubs roster. What have our boys been up to? Well, taking a look at the standings, I see we have reached our goal for the year. Yeah, welcome to last place…

It pisses me off; it didn’t have to be this way, but the guys in charge chose this path. I don’t think I’ll ever get over it honestly. Taking a team that made the playoffs 5 out of 6 years… that’s the real measure of a great team; finishing with one of the best records over 162. Why that Cubs team did not win ANOTHER World Series (look at us… looking for more than one) is a good question. The answer to that question was certainly not blowing the team up. OK, trading one of our guys maybe; adding some pieces, making some tweaks… getting a new manager not named David Ross… sure, I could have bought into that. But extending absolutely nobody, getting rid of all of our stars (don’t worry, Willson will not be back next year either)… is pure stupidity. I think I may have been over this before… maybe like a couple dozen times. So what? I will beat the crap out of this dead horse until we’re back; don’t hold your breath on that one.

It pisses me off even more when I see these other teams playing meaningful baseball in front of full crowds. Hey, the Wrigley faithful will still be there, but we will not be seeing meaningful baseball for a long time. They took that from us; they squeezed the joy out of the Golden Era. I have random photos that pop up on my watch, and one was a picture of the Wrigley Field video board that showed “Magic Number 3”. That was back in 2015, after Jake won his 20th game in front of the faithful; what a time to be alive. And now, magic number? What the hell is that? Just some stupid ass term that will mean something for those teams that will be making the playoffs over the next couple months.

But have no fear; the Cubs are well on their way to getting another top draft pick. That was the goal this year right? In a winnable division, the Cubs chose to put this thing in reverse, instead of putting on some new tires and staying at the top. SMDH… To see the Marlins beat us; that don’t help either. I hate that damn team. I guess I’m just in a bad mood period when it comes to the Cubs. I guess that’s why it’s been so hard to keep up with this daily blog; how many different ways can I express my anger and frustration? I guess that’s why I went the route of an all-time MLB team; I had to express my love for the game in some way. I guess that’s why I can’t wait for football season to start, and can only hope that the Bears will have a better season than most predict.

43-64, last place in the NL Central. Look what you’ve done to our boys Jed/Tom. 2nd worst team in the NL to only the Nationals; 4th worst team in the majors next to only the Tigers and Athletics. What a time to be alive… the Cubs are back…
