May 13, 2022: Friday Hopping

We were talking about going out on Friday night, but my son wasn’t feeling well. He’s been touch and go this week; good enough to go to school, but wiped out/borderline sick after school. We missed a basketball game and a baseball practice; figured he needed a little time for his body to recover. Well, Friday after school he felt worse; ear started hurting him now. Thankfully, we haven’t really had to deal with him being sick a lot; it sucks. Because of this, we were planted in front of the TV; plenty of sports going on. It’s Friday Hopping time!

We started with the Bucks and Celtics game. Of course, I’m rooting for the Celtics since the Bucks knocked us out; it just works like that for me. Some prefer the opposite, as if the team that beat you advancing further into the playoffs makes it look better that we lost to the better team; I don’t necessarily subscribe to that. It’s pretty simple really: they beat us, I want them to lose. That’s exactly what happened in Milwaukee on Game 6. The other game that I was checking in on was the Rangers and Penguins. This past week, I’ve finally started to tune into the NHL playoffs, and holy shit… do you see all the Game 7s about to go down?!?! The Rangers became the 2nd team of the night to take care of business on the road with their backs against the wall. Both the Celtics and Rangers will go back home and host the winner take all Game 7. The Panthers were the next team to win on the road, against the Capitals, except this time, it meant series over. But back to those Game 7s…

The Avalanche swept the Predators, the Blues beat the Wild in 6, and the just mentioned Panthers knocked out the Caps in 6; the other 5 series are going to 7!!! Taking a quick glance, I think I’ll root for all the home teams. Although I’m rooting for the Celtics, it’s only because I’m looking for the Bucks to lose; I won’t support another Boston team, and thus, will root for the Hurricanes to beat the Bruins. Tampa Bay has won too much recently, and Toronto, well, yeah, they could use a big win like this. Definitely won’t root for the Kings because of 2014; my sports grudges last long. Go Oilers! Never been a fan of the Penguins, even though they’ve had some of the greats, so easy call to root for the Rangers. And rolling with the Flames over the Stars for no reason in particular, except I’ve just always kind of liked them.

The other NBA series was the next game we tuned into; the Warriors ended the Grizzlies. Speaking of Game 7s, it’ll be the Suns and Mavericks before the Celtics Bucks to determine who will face the Warriors and Heat respectively. Considering the teams that are left, I have to roll with either the Heat or the Mavs. Yeah, I used to hate the Heat, but that was because of LeBron, so since he’s gone, and one of my favorites Jimmy Butler is leading the cause, I wouldn’t mind seeing them win, definitely over the other 2 teams left in the East. The Mavs because of Luka Doncic I guess; he’s one of my son’s favorite players. Kind of sick of the Suns already if that’s even possible, and the Warriors… tied with the Bulls with 6 NBA titles all time… don’t need them nudging ahead.

Of course, although I wasn’t interested in the Sox Yankees game, other than it was an absolute beautiful night for baseball, I did watch the Cubs. The thing I don’t get is that they were on Apple TV. So you have to pay for Marquee to see the Cubs games, yet here’s one that’s not even covered by the channel?!?! I hope this is a one time thing. It let me watch the game for free, but now my wife was saying I have to cancel the free trial?!? Like I’m going to remember to do that. When we first tuned in, the Cubs scored their 3 runs; of course they blew that lead, and ended up losing, but I didn’t sit on it. In fact, I was done with sports for the night, and because my wife went to bed early with my son, it was Sopranos time until I myself fell asleep. Halfway through Season 4.

OK, there’s my Friday evening in a nutshell. Can’t complain; I’m totally good with it. It’s been kind of non-stop lately; looking forward to relaxing a bit… hope my son feels better. Enjoy your weekend.
