That was quick. One day it’s 40 degrees and raining, next day it’s almost 90 degrees; welcome to Chicago’s changing seasons. This year felt a little different. It’s almost as if we had no spring. We went straight from dreary and cold to blazing hot. I mean, just the other day we had the heat on; now I’m trying to convince my wife to turn on the AC. The low temperature this week is higher than the high temperature last week. Crazy global warming world we’re living in… I love the summer, don’t get me wrong; it just kind of snuck up on us. Not really prepared, but I’m not going to complain; am I complaining?
One of my favorite things about the summer is hanging my left arm outside of the window when I’m driving. Of course my wife hates it. She feels like one day a car is going to smash into it, take it right off; I’ll take my chances. I’m not doing it because she hates it, although that’s kind of fun. No, I’m doing it because that’s what I’ve always done; it’s comfortable for me. Actually, I remember my father doing that growing up; I guess I got it from him. My mom always blamed him for any of my bad habits… haha; some things never change I guess. But it’s not a bad habit… it’s just… that’s what I do. It’s funny after a long trip in the car; my left arm is really tan, while my right arm is still white. It doesn’t take long to even out. Where the hell am I going with this?
Actually, I don’t know; I’m just kind of rambling on. I’ll get to a point eventually, maybe in my next blog. Another thing the hot weather brings us in Chicago is more violence, which is kind of crazy considering the level we’re already at. As if things aren’t bad enough, just wait until those hot summer weekends. You think the murders are high now? Ha! Yeah, I have a feeling records, and bodies, will be falling. Ever see a body fall? I have.
It was one summer, long time ago. We were about 5 houses off the corner. I had moved into a bedroom upstairs with my grandmother when I turned 18. When I would look out the window, I could see guys hanging out. One night, as I was watching the activity, shots rang out; guess it was a drive by. All the guys scattered, except for one, who slumped to the ground. Maybe he was OK; maybe not… Not sure why violence is on my mind…
Have to get back to some sports talk; always plenty to talk about. In fact, the Cubs were trying to do something in San Diego that they hadn’t done since the first series of the year. Yeah, let’s talk about that next… Stay cool..
