As I continue my depression sessions, we look to another Chicago team. Yes, first I talked about how low the bar will be set for the Cubs this year. Next, I talked about the not so great expectations for the Bears upcoming season. Let’s talk about a team that is actually playing right now; yep, here come the Hawks!
Talk about a train wreck of a year. I’ve been over this a bit. Honestly, it’s got to the point where I don’t even watch them as much as I used to… that sucks. I still do watch… I try to watch, but it’s been hard to watch. It wasn’t fun to be in the house to see the Hawks get their asses kicked earlier this year. Being there in person is better, but not so much when your team loses. We still are planning on making one more appearance before the year is up. On Monday night, my brother and family were in the house. As I checked on the first period score, I thought, damn, what a great game to be at.
Yes, the Hawks jumped out to a big lead; it was 4-0 at one point. There was the Toews goal of course that was a thing of beauty. This lead has to be safe right? Well, is any lead safe with this Hawks team? First off, how many times have the Hawks scored this many goals. This was the 20th game all year that the Hawks tallied at least 4 goals. That’s 20 out of 67 games. Secondly, a 4 goal lead would be safe if Fleury was still around, but… he gone. So, with Lankinen in the net, the Sabres were able to get back in this one… As the game was tied 5-5 in the 3rd period, I thought the perfect scenario would play out for my brother in person. Hawks score a lot of goals, goes to OT, and Hawks win in a shootout. Well, only the first leg was true. Speaking about legs, the goal the Sabres “scored” was kicked in by Lankinen as he tried to slide back in the crease. What an ugly way to lose a game, and not just any game, but a game where you held a 4 goal lead… against a team just as bad as you… at home!!! I feel like this game pretty much summed up the Hawks season… brutal.
The pain will all be over soon for the Hawks. 15 games left; 15?!? Yes, 82-67=15. I know the math, but man… thought the season was closer to being over. At this point, I’m just waiting to see the ticket prices drop so me, my dad, and brother can get to our 1 game this year… that’s if my brother wants to go after being in the house for this one… haha. Anyways, maybe the Hawks can provide us a bit of joy when we get back to the UC and give us a W. Wishful thinking…
