March 20, 2022: Dream Roster

posted in: Cubs | 0

You see that dream roster the Cubs are assembling for 2022? Yeah, me either. No offense to Andrelton Simmons, Jonathan Villar, Seiya Suzuki, and Marcus Stroman, but… if that’s all we’re getting, then, well… at least tickets should be cheap.

This is a slap in the face basically. The Cubs aren’t some small market team; they’re fricking loaded. Maybe not as much as the Yankees, Dodgers, or Red Sox, but pretty damn close. The Cubs SHOULD be spending the money they have each and every year to field a team worthy of contention in the NL Central. The sad thing is, the NL Central ain’t that strong. You see what the Reds are doing; the Pirates are the Pirates. And yes, the Cardinals are the Cardinals, and they’re seemingly always in the mix. And the Brewers? Keep begging fans to come to your games. It’s a winnable division, and should be every year for the Cubs. But the Cubs don’t want to pay anybody… familiar story.

Take your fricking pick. KB, Rizzo, Baez… or maybe Schwarber, Castellanos. Any of them? Bueller, Bueller… It’s pathetic. And now of course the stories about how these guys settled for less money than the Cubs were offering to play elsewhere; ha! You believe that? If so, I have a washer that needs minimal repairs that I’d like to sell you for $500. It’s a load of BS. The Cubs completely botched the management of the roster, period, point blank. There is no way in hell that none of those guys should be in a Cubs uniform… Well, there could be another way…

The other way would be to pay some other guys to come play here, guys that we think will be more successful than that bunch I just mentioned. What happened to the Carlos Correa sweepstakes? You mean the Twins outbid the Cubs? What in the world? And Freddie Freeman? Were the Cubs even in the conversation? The Cubs should be in every single conversation about big name players; that’s just the way it should be, even if in this particular case, it would have meant that future Hall of Famer Frank Schwindel would have to play another position. It’s a flat out joke.

The Ricketts came, they saw, they conquered, and now, have destroyed. There’s only a couple pieces left. Why keep Hendricks, Contreras? Ship them too. Erase every single player from that 2016 roster. Don’t forget about Heyward, please. Yeah, I know… making the playoffs and not winning it all just didn’t cut the mustard around these parts for the perennial champions that the Cubs have been for most of our lifetimes… Look, I’m frustrated we didn’t win more, but it’s not like we weren’t making the playoffs. At that point, you look for a tweak… some player(s), a change here or there, to push us over the edge. You don’t fricking blow the thing up, bottom out payroll, and start over. Stupidest F-ing thing I’ve ever seen.

Funny thing is, I can’t wait to see the Cubs play again; I look forward to that every year. And although this team will be average at best, it’s better than a whole lot of other teams the Cubs have fielded over the years; sad but true. Sorry if I thought the whole “Cubs being cheap thing” was in the rearview… I guess objects are closer than they appear… Go Cubs…
