What the hell am I doing at work today? It’s the first day of March Madness!!! And it’s St. Patrick’s Day too!!! There is no way I should be sitting in my office attending call after call on a day like THIS. I should be in Vegas… March Madness in Vegas is something to behold. If you haven’t already, put it on your bucket list. Drinking, gambling, watching basketball all day… not sure about you, but that sounds like a little piece of heaven that starts at 9am local time in Las Vegas on this day. I was telling my son this morning over a bowl of cereal, that when he’s 21, we’re doing it! Yeah, but that’s 12 years away… What the hell am I going to do before then?
Although Vegas for March Madness may have to wait, at the very least until next year, there are other options. I’m sure the local casinos are popping, with sports gambling legalized now in Illinois and Indiana, the 2 local options for me. It wouldn’t be the same as Vegas; nothing is, plus I’ll have to drive home! I’m sure it would be fun though. Something to certainly think about, and plan for next time around. Back in the day, working downtown, we didn’t need Vegas or a casino…
Today brings back many memories, many good feelings. I got a call from my good friend this morning reminding me. Yeah, he’s dealing with potential kidney stones; sucks getting old. Yeah, back in the day, right about now, we would be at the bar. Me, him, and another one of our buddies who currently resides in Florida. There was a bar a couple blocks away from the job. One year we headed over there, and never made it back. A couple buckets of beer during the first game made that decision easy for us. Can’t even remember if we got in that much trouble for that… We didn’t lose our jobs, that’s for sure. That’s what I should be doing right about now… maybe not a couple buckets… a couple beers would do.
As for today, more meetings are on the docket; this is TRUE madness. Yeah, I found the games on my phone; I’m streaming them now… currently watching, and rooting for one of my upset picks, South Dakota State to beat Providence. I may or may not have cracked a single beer to commemorate the moment. This can’t be the way March Madness is treated; what the hell happened to me? I got old I guess, responsibilities and such; no excuses dammit! Yeah, I filled out a bracket and submitted it, to the same guy I’ve been submitting them to for about 2 decades; my dad ran the pool before then. My son and wife filled one out; we’ll be keeping track for sure. My dad, brother, and brother in law sent me theirs too. It’s still fun, no doubt. But… no way should I be sitting at my desk at work while the Madness kicks off; it just doesn’t feel right. We have to do something about this…
