March 16, 2022: Suzuki Splash

Well, well, well… the Cubs finally signed somebody of note since the resumption of baseball. Welcome to the Cubs Seiya Suzuki. How you doing?

Where to start… I guess I’m happy, if only for the fact that the Cubs did something of note. If you look at his numbers in Japan, they are impressive; that was Japan though… Seeing his last name, reminds me of the other Suzuki that played in the majors. Yeah, if this guy is anything like Ichiro, jackpot. I’m thinking there’s only one Ichiro though; the Cubs missed that boat. But it’s something… that’s for sure. Hope this something turns into something; hope there are more “somethings” coming too.

How about Freddie Freeman? Certainly looks like that ship has sailed in Atlanta; can’t believe it. And yes, I know we have the irreplaceable Frank Schwindel at 1B right now, but… I think we can make it work. Of course, he’ll be looking for mega bucks, probably even more than the other star we’ve been linked to, Carlos Correa. And what about Correa? Are the Cubs trying to lowball him? Do we really want him? Again, I know Simmons may have to play elsewhere, but… yeah, Correa at SS… would be nice!

Speaking about first base… everyone saw Anthony Rizzo resigned with the Yankees. I knew he wasn’t coming back, just like the other guys that were dumped. Baez has been in Detroit for a while now, while Schwarber is heading to Philly. What about KB? That ain’t happening either. They say the money Rizzo got was way less than what the Cubs offered him. Hmmm… who is saying that again? Not saying it’s not true, but… who really knows? Either way, Rizzo, who should have retired a Cub, will be playing in the Bronx again.

Speaking of Rizzo, and Baez for that matter, a certain relief pitcher from our division has followed them to the AL. Amir Garrett… remember that jerk off? Yeah, he’ll get to face off against Anthony again; he’s in the same division as Javy! The saga continues…

Who else? Well, we could use another starter; that’d be nice. On the other side of town, I really like the recent pickups by the Sox. Joe Kelly, you know, bitter beer face who trashed the Astros, and is a pretty damn good reliever out of the pen is with the Sox. Josh Harrison has signed as well; really like that guy. He can play multiple positions; he makes contact. Two really nice additions by the Sox. Of course, they lost someone as well. Carlos Rodon will be pitching for the Giants this year. The Sox certainly didn’t expect much from him last year, but they got a whole lot; how will they replace his wins? Kopech starting?

It’s fun to talk baseball again. Glad to see the Cubs finally making a splash; may have to break out the Fukudome headband. Interesting to see the rest of the movements throughout the league; ready to get the season started. Waiting for the next big Cubs signing… hopefully there’ll be one…
