Of course, we would not miss the Bulls game on Saturday night. The UC would be rocking as the Bulls hosted the Grizzlies. Two playoff bound teams… two MVP candidates… this was going to be fun. Well, similar to my son’s game at 8am on Saturday morning, the game was awesome, but it had the wrong result. The Grizzlies would hold off a furious 4th quarter Bulls rally to win 116-110.
In the spirit of “Madness”, this game had some of that; you may want to call it “Ja Madness”. Have you ever seen this kid they call Ja play ball? We saw him earlier this year, on MLK day in Memphis, although that game doesn’t quite stick in my memory for other reasons. We see highlights of this kid doing some magnificent stuff on the court. We can read his stats, his team’s place in the standings. When you put it all together, we can make the safe assumption that this kid is special. Saturday night at the UC and a career high 46 points later, I’m certainly not changing that opinion. My goodness… did you see the 360 layup at the rim? Or how about that alley oop he threw down? Well, doing this type of stuff, on our home court in Chicago… I can’t help but think of some ex- Bulls.
Ja Morant’s crazy moves at the rim, especially that 360, remind me of THE ex-Bull. Yeah, not by any means comparing him to Jordan, you know me better than that, but there are flashes. I happened to catch the highlights of this game on ESPN, and Ja said he was watching the Jordan highlights on the big screen… and then went out and scored more. I get it… watching MJ highlights DOES inspire. I used to watch them before I headed out to play ball back in the day, although my games were played on an outside park district court, and maybe I connected on one of my reverse layups in the game. He’s the right guy to watch, and IF you have the talent…

I don’t usually do this… talk about a player on the other team. I don’t like when Amin does that during the broadcast. If you’re playing against the Bulls, I don’t want to hear that crap. Yet, on this evening, it was hard not to respect what this kid was doing. Yeah, it’s tip of the cap time on this one. Although there are some other issues I’d like to get into, that’ll have to be another day. Glad we won’t see this kid again, at least not in the regular season…
