February 8, 2015: Fly Pelican

posted in: Bulls | 2

That’s enough of that…  The Bulls 3 game losing streak was brought to a screeching halt Saturday night in New Orleans.  It was total destruction.  It was the type of win that could get the Bulls going again.  The Bulls coasted to their biggest margin of victory in a 107-72 win.

OK, ok… so Anthony Davis, one of the best players in the NBA (Chicago boy by the way), was out for the 2nd half after a brutal fall in the 2nd quarter.  Maybe this shows just how important he is to this team.  Regardless, the Bulls smelled blood in the water, and they did not hesitate.  They came out and outscored the Pelicans by 16 points in the 3rd quarter, and put this game away.

The APB on the Bulls defense was finally answered.  They played the type of defense we have been used to seeing in the Thibs era.  It was stifling, holding the Birds to 37% shooting, and only 52 points after the first quarter.  They needed this win, and they got it.

It was a total team effort.  The usual suspects Rose, Butler and Gasol led the starting five.  They all looked extremely sharp.  It was another played who may have had this biggest impact on this game though…

Tony Snell, or Tony Smell as my son calls him, was the man tonight.  After a nice offseason in the NBA summer league, he looked primed to make an impact this year.  He’s been given plenty of opportunities.  He just hasn’t seemed to get it going on a consistent basis.  Tonight, was one of his best games.  With 19 points, and 5 of 6 from 3 point land, he made his presence known.  He was also the man that fouled Davis forcing his big fall; no intent there, but still have to give credit where credit is due.  Will he be able to build on this, or will he go back to the Marquis Teague track out of town?  OR, did he just increase his trade value???

The entire roster kicked in tonight in garbage time, from sweet dishes from Nikola to a McDermott sighting to an Etwan Moore awesome dunk.  About the only thing I wished I did NOT see was that Cameron Bairstow jumper; that was ugly.  Heck, the only player that did NOT see the court tonight was good old Nazr.  No need to waste those legs.  We’ll need him for a flagrant foul come playoff time.

It was a nice win for the Bulls over a Western Conference playoff team on the road; now let’s not blow it in Orlando on Sunday night.  It would be just like this Bulls team to follow up an impressive win with a predictable dud, kind of like the loss to the Lakers after beating Golden State.  Let’s get that win, and give some payback to the Magic.  After that game, 9 of the next 10 will be back at the UC, where we have a home record to improve upon.

I still can’t believe there is a team named the Pelicans.  OK, so you had to give up the Hornets name back to its original owner in Charlotte, and you can’t claim the Jazz since they’re in Utah, but there has to be something better than the state bird.  How about the Express, or even the Players?  Something, anything has to be better than that.  As they build around Anthony Davis, and continue to improve, let’s get that name changed also.  Just think… more merchandise to sell too!

So it was the Bulls smashing the Pelicans; that sounds about right.  Let’s remember this one.  Let’s remember the defense we played.  Let’s remember the stars playing like stars.  Let’s remember the bench showing off our depth.  When you put all that together, the Bulls look like that team that will challenge for it all.  First thing’s first though, a win against a team we should beat.  Let’s make them disappear and come on home.  It’s time to kick it in to gear.

Pretty cool site. Heard about this from your father. Had the opportunity to meet him yesterday and the local VFW. Seem like a great man, one to be proud of. Thank him for his service and I really enjoy the time talking with him. He talked about Harrison park and the boys and girl club.

Thanks for checking it out! Spent a ton of my childhood in either Harrison park or boys club… Great memories! As far as my dad, yeah, he’s pretty great too. Come back and comment often.
